Day Trip to Chicago

South Lawndale, Chicago: a.k.a Little Village
I took a nice day trip to Chicago this past weekend.

This past weekend I took trip to Chicago with my sister, Karla, her boyfriend Brad, and my friend Sandra. Karla was interested in visiting the different Mexican stores around 26th street to help foster up ideas for her senior show coming up. We went to the Discount Mall that has flea market feel to it. The different stands sell items from clothing, shoes appliances, blankets, animals, and Mexican knick knacks. It is a very interesting place to visit.

After browsing and shopping we decided to eat at Los Comales. We decide to order the Taco Tray which included 20 tacos and pitcher of agua de horchata (rice water). I would highly recommend getting the Taco Tray for a party of 4-5 because you can sample from all the tacos they serve. The food at Los Comales was very satisfing after not having Mexican food for over a month.

Before leaving Little Village, we stopped at the La Baguette Bakery to buy some bread. If you ever around this area of Chicago you need to stop by this bakery. The bakery sells an array of sweet Mexican bread and pastries. The picture bellow shows some of the bake goods La Baquette sells.

Our trip to Chicago ended in Pilsen at the National Museum of Mexican Art. Here Karla and my friend Karlos sold their art at the Yollocalli Chill Set event. The Yollocalli youth council members planned a highly successful event. There were several interactive workshops going on like face painting and button making. Oh and I can't forget to mention the free food they had. It was an evening spent well. I can't wait to go back.
Check my sister's website here. And go purchase Karlos' prints here
